Summary : A Second World War bombing decoy site at Low Moor. This site is first referenced on 19th June 1940 and was last known to be in use on 1st August 1941. This was a 'Q-type' site intended to deflect enemy night bombing from Royal Air Force Catterick airfield. It is thought that there were no buildings or dummy aircraft at this site. There was a further (possibly later) decoy site for Catterick located at Birkby. By the 1970s the site had been given over to agricultural usage. |
More information : A 'Q-type' bombing decoy situated at Low Moor intended to deflect bombing from RAF Catterick. First referenced on 19-JUN-1940 and last known to be in use on 01-AUG-1941. It was situated at SE 393 984. There was a further decoy site situated at Birkby (NZ 318 003). (1)
By the 1970s this site was given over to agricultural usage. NGRs are the same as source 1. (2)
