The main building is late 14th or early 15th century. A great hall and kitchen were added about 1540. The gatehouse and NW range are c. 1559. The main building became ruinous and was restored c 1785, and, with the NW range, was converted into a farmhouse. The great hall and gatehouse range are now in ruins. See plan. [2]

Wharton Hall A large house of courtyard plan. In building between late 14th and 17th centuries. Substantial remains of the great hall and kitchen, gatehouse virtually intact though lacking roof and floors. Grade 1. [4]

Originated as a tower and hall house of circa 1415, extended with a banqueting hall and kitchen circa 1540. A gatehouse, West wing (including Long Gallery and chapel) were added circa 1559.
