(SU 1159 6373) Pillow Mound (NR) (1) On Walker's Hill - Bell barrow, Alton 16 (Monument HOB UID 1461989) is connected to Bell Barrow, Alton 15 (Monument HOB UID 1461996) by a bank (2) described by Crawford as a Pillow Mound (3). SU 1159 6373; The pillow mound (Clearly subsequent to barrow - Alton 16) is 46 metres long, 12 metre wide and 0.5 metre high above 0.2 metre deep side ditches. Resurveyed at 1:2500. (4)
The two Bronze Age bell barrows and the bowl barrow, and the Medieval or Post Medieval pillow mound, described by the previous authority have been mapped from aerial photographs. (5)
The Medieval pillow mound survives as a low earthwork 44 metres long, 6 metres wide and 0.4 metres high. It is orientated north-north-west/south-south-east and appears to have been deliberately aligned between the two bell barrows (Monument HOB UID 1461989 and HOB UID 1461996). (6)
