Summary : A Bronze Age bowl barrow on Grimstone Down. It is part of a barrow cemetery comprising eight barrows and survives as an elongated earthwork measuring 17 metres northeast-southwest by 12.8 metres northwest to southeast and about 1.6 metres high. The barrow is listed as Stratton Number 4 by Grinsell (1959), Barrow Number 15a by RCHME (1952) and as Barrow F by the Ordnance Survey.
More information : (Centred SY 645955) Tumuli (NR) (twice) Tumulus (NR (Seven mounds shown). 1) One of a group of round barrows on Grimstone Down:- Barrow 'F' - SY 64609560. A bowl barrow, 50 feet in diameter and 5 feet high, with a disturbed centre. (RCHM No 15a; Grinsell's 'Stratton No 4'). (Sited from settlement plan with SY 69 NW 38). (2-3) Barrow 'F' - SY 64609560, one of six grass covered bowl barrows varying from 6.5 to 16 metres in diameter and 0.7 to 2 metres high. (4) "SY 642958. Group of four mound barrows on Grimstone Down". Scheduled. (5) The barrow is as generally described by Authority (4). It is an elongated barrow, measuring 17 metres northeast-southwest and 12.8 metres northwest to southeast, and 1.6 metres high. (See plan and ground photograph). Surveyed at 1:2500 (6)
