Scheduled (2) Sparsholt disc barrow has been identified on the ground and surveyed at 1:2500. SU 3284 8351, is almost ploughed out, but shows as very distinct soil marks (see G.P. AO/63/95/2) (3)
The Sparsholt disc barrow , SU 3283 8350, has been almost levelled, but dimensions for the mound platform, ditch and outer bank are given. The overall diameter is 46.8 metres. Ploughing revealed a collared urn inverted over a cremation in 1820-28. The urn is in the British Museum. (4)
The Sparholt barrow has been mapped from aerial photographs and is visible as a cropmark. (5)
A disc barrow situated 700 metres northeast of Sevenbarrows House, forming part of the Lambourn Seven Barrows Cemetery. The barrow has been levelled by cultivation. It originally had a diameter of 40 metres surrounded by a level berm and outer ditch. The ditch is visible as a soil mark. (6) |
