Summary : Barrow 18. A Bronze Age double bell barrow situated 450 metres to the southeast of Sevenbarrows House, forming part of the Lambourn Seven Barrow Cemetery. The barrow, known as Barrow 18 by Case, survives as an earthwork, is orientated northeast-southwest and is 50 metres long. The northern mound is 2 metres high and 36 metres wide; the southern part, which was built against the larger mound, is 1.5 metres high and 20 metres wide. The mounds are enclosed by a three metre wide berm and a ditch between 3 metres and 5 metres wide and up to 0.5 metres deep. Excavations during the 1850s located a cremation situated within a sarsen cist accompanied by a bronze awl and a jet pendant. |

This barrow is one of thirty six barrows listed by Case (2) and is listed as Barrow 18. [see plan AO/LP/63/105 for numbering and siting]. Excavations by E.Martin Atkins in 1850-58 located a cremation accompanied by grave goods. Scheduled (2-7) The barrow (Barrow 18) has been identified on the ground and surveyed at 1:2500. SU 3278 8259, A bell barrow with two confluent tumps. Height of mound is 2 metres, depth of ditch is 0.6 metres. (8)
