Summary : Coastal battery to the east of Southsea Castle, built as part of the 1860s defence review of Portsmouth's defences. It was modified in circa 1902 and armed with two 6-inch breech-loading (BL) Mk. VII guns. By the First World War it gained two additional 9.2-inch BL Mk. X guns. The 6-inch guns were removed after 1927, and during the Second World War it mounted only the 9.2-inch guns. |

Southsea Castle located at SZ 645 980. East Battery was built as part of Portmouth's defences in the 1860s. It was modified in circa 1902 and armed with two 6-inch breech-loading (BL) Mk. VII guns.
