Summary : The former site of a Second World War Auxiliary Unit Operational Base is situated in the north-east corner tower of Baconsthorpe Castle. The base in form of an Anderson shelter type, which consisted of curved and straight corrugated steel panels, was apparently destroyed during restoration work on the castle. It was constructed in the period of 1940 to 1941. The structure had been destroyed before a field visit in July 1999.
