The Second World War type 24 pillbox referred to above (1) is visible as a structure on aerial photographs and has been mapped as part of the Mendip Hills AONB NMP project. The pillbox faces northeast with the entrance on the southwest side. This pillbox along with another pillbox and hardened gun post (ST35NW 42/HOB UID 1427626 and ST 35NW 71/HOB UIB 1427647), was probably built to defend the bridge across the Cross Rhyne. (2-3) |
