More information : 25+ anti-tank 'pimples' on N bank of the River Wey in at least three rows, close to the Waverley Abbey ruins. Some 'pimples' have iron rings set in the top. A tree nearby has the carved inscription, 'Bond, Sgt. Pioneer Corp, 1941'. [see photo p6, '20th Century Defences in Britain']. This inscription is now very hard to see. [It is conjectured - see BBC2 programme 'Invasion!' shown on 11.11.01 - that steel hawsers were connected to the iron rings on the 'pimples' and stretched across the river: one of these hawsers is said to lie at SU 868452].
