| Summary : Possible post medieval extraction is visible as cropmarks on air photographs. A large area adjacent to the site of South Kyme Priory (see TF 14 NE 1) has irregular patches of dark maculae, suggestive of extraction pits. The area lies on the north bank of Kyme Eau and may relate to sand and gravel, or clay extraction. The first edition map indicates the site of a corn mill and other buildings. Some buildings were evident on 1947 air photographs, but there is no evidence of these structures within the area of cropmarks, they presumably have been levelled and destroyed. |
