Summary : A World War Two blister aircraft hangar at RAF Northolt, built in 1943. The curved section hangar has corrugated iron cladding on a steel frame, and so may be an "over blister or "extra over blister" variant (the standard blister had a wooden frame). It appears no longer to be in use as an aircraft hangar and has more permanent rendered ends, possibly added post war. When the hangar was visited in 2000 by RCHME staff it was in use as a storehouse. It is known as Building 345 in the internal RAF Northolt numbering system. |
More information : The description of the steel framed blister hangar in the monument record summary is based on materials contained in the relevant Buildings File for RAF Northolt, which is held in the NMR: please see related archive. (1)
The standard blister hangar had a wooden frame. Those with steel frames were the larger Miskins Over- or Extra-Over (sized) blister hangars. (2) |
