Summary : The site of Roman turret 49B (TW) on the Turf Wall. There are no visible remains.
More information : (NY 6097 6599) Turrett (R) (Site of) (1) Turret 49B TW was located in 1934 571 yards east of Milecastle 50 TW and 1028 yards west of MC 49; this sites it at NY 6119 6665. It was built of stone about 20 ft square externally, and was dismantled when the stone wall was built. (2-3) (The position shown on OS 6" 1957 and Hadrian's Wall 1964 is wrong). (4) No visible remains. (5) There is no trace of the turret. The correct position based only on Simpson's measurements (see auth 2) is at NY 6114 6607. (6) Scheduled (7) Located on the English Heritage map of Hadrian's Wall 2010. (8)
