Summary : A Pickett-Hamilton Fort at the former RAF airfield of Kenley Aerodrome. This is a type of retractable pillbox used on World War Two airfields, less well preserved than the other example noted as extant here in the late 1990s. It was built after May 1941.
More information : A World War Two Pickett-Hamilton Fort noted on the Defence of Britain Database at the former RAF Kenley, Coulsdon, Croydon, TQ 330 578. When visited in 1997, the concrete and steel installation was in only fair condition being partly silted up, with the internal mechanism thought to be in poor condition. It was built after May 1941.
