Summary : The site of a destroyed World War Two pillbox at the former RAF High Ercall military airfield. The brick pillbox was one of a number surrounding the airfield, probably built in 1940-1941. This example was located on Cotwall Road leading to the village of Ercall Magna (High Ercall). It was said to have been disguised as a garden shed. Its destruction was noted in 1996.
More information : The site of a destroyed World War Two pillbox at the former RAF High Ercall airfield, SJ 6117 1778, Ercall Magna, Shropshire. The brick pillbox was one of a number surrounding the airfield. The Defence of Britain record states that it was built in the period 1940-1941. This example was located on Cotwall Road leading to the village of Ercall Magna or High Ercall. It was said to have been disguised as a garden shed. Its destruction was noted in 1996. (1)
