The Picket Hamilton fort was a special kind of airfield installation, which consisted of a small concrete pillbox that could be retracted by hydraulic power to be flush with the level of the airfield surface so as not to present an obstacle to aircraft. It may have been built between 1940 and 1941. This example was extant until 2001 when it was destroyed.
