More information : A World War Two pillbox, part of the former Hawkinge Airfield's defences, at TR 205 391, Hawkinge, Kent. The Defence of Britain Record States that the pillbox was built between 1940-1941. It is situated off Gibraltar Lane. It is a type 22 concrete pillbox with reinforced walls (except the rear wall). There are the remains of a light anti aircraft emplacement on the roof. In 1996 when visited as part of the defence of Britain project, the pillbox was said to be extant but in bad condition. (1) |
