Town Battery

Hob Uid: 1395266
Location :
East Sussex
Hastings
Non Civil Parish
Grid Ref : TQ8200009200
Summary : The old town battery at Hastings was rebuilt in 1759. In 1806 it was noted that a large part of the battery had been washed away since 1798. The rampart, built of lacal sandstone, was weather worn. Colonel Twiss did not consider the battery worth repairing unless it was completely reformed to give the guns the protection of a six foot parapet. Precise location not given.
