Summary : A Second World War type 22 pillbox sunk to embrasure level, at the former RAF Hornchurch. The pillbox is situated on the eastern boundary of Hornchurch Country Park. It is thought to have been constructed between 1940 and 1941. The entrance of the concrete pillbox has been buried. When investigated in 1999 one Turnbull type weapons mount was visible and the pillbox was said to be in good condition. |
More information : TQ 533 840. A type 22 pillbox sunk to embrasure level, at the former RAF Hornchurch. The pillbox is situated on the eastern boundary of Hornchurch Counrty Park (mis-typed "County Park" in the Defence of Britain record). It is thought to have been constructed between 1940 and 1941.
