Summary : Two shortened aircraft hangars (type C) at RAF Church Fenton military airfield, constructed in 1937. These are large permanent hangars with ridge and valley roofs. They were the first hangars on the airfield, and are said to be the only main hangars to survive from the pre-war and wartime airfield. |
More information : Type C hangars at Church Fenton. A web page on the history of RAF Church Fenton notes: "Initially" (in 1937) "there was a grass strip runway and only two shortened 'C' type hangars (the two main hangars which remain)". (1)
To the south of the technical area and facing onto the airfield are two shortened CType hangars. They are a protected type with lower brick walls and windows above with six sliding doors to either end. Both have squadron offices facing onto the flying field and in those of the western hangar are various aircraft murals. (2) |
