Summary : Grasslees is a small farmhouse which originated as a bastle. The evidence for the bastle is the plinth upon which the farmhouse is built. The stones are cemented onto a single course of large boulders which can still be seen all around the house, and is roughly 35 feet by 25 feet. The bastle was demolished in the 18th century and the present house built on the old plinth.
