| Summary : A Second World War pillbox at the former RAF Biggin Hill site, situated on Main Road opposite Lunar Close. The pillbox was part of the airfield's ground defences. It was probably built in the period 1940-1941. The pillbox was extant when visited in February 2002 by a Defence of Britain project recorder and was partially obscured by earth at that date. |
| More information : The Defence of Britain database records a pillbox situated on Main Road opposite Lunar Close at Biggin Hill. The pillbox was part of the airfield's defences, allegedly built in 1940-1941. It was constructed from Reinforced concrete and brick. When the site was visited in February 1999 by a Defence of Britain project recorder, the pillbox was described as being partially "earthed over" although it appeared intact. It was not readily identifiable as a pillbox from a distance. (1) |
