Summary : The site of Roman turret 44A on Hadrian's Wall. It is visible as a turf-covered bank with an average height of 0.3m and square in shape. The turret is also visible as earthworks on air photographs.

Turret 44A, located by exploratory excavation in 1912, occurs at the turn in the wall on Mucklebank Crag beyond the second nick of the "Nine Nicks of Thirlwall". (2-3)

The foundations of the turret wall are visible as a slight, turf-covered bank. Surveyed at 1.2500. (4)

The turret is visible at NY 6842 6685 as a turf-covered bank with an average height of 0.3m and square in shape. (5)
