Summary : In 1864 the North and South Western Railway obtained powers to extend its line to Richmond to avoid the circuitous routes then available onward from Kew Bridge. The 3 mile line left the NSWR at South Acton Junction to a new station at Richmond adjoining the old London and South Western Railway's station. The line opened in 1869. The District Line uses the route South of Gunnersbury Station.
