More information : A discontinuous section of Roman Road is visible as earthwork and cropmark banks and ditches on vertical air photographs. This is part of the lkley to Tadcaster Roman road, LINEAR 604, Margary 72b. This feature is visible for over 1800m between SE 2261 4273 and SE 2425 4191, with only minor interruptions. Between SE 2261 4273 and SE 2336 4241this feature is defined by a broad parchmark flanked by narrow ditches. Between SE 2336 4241 and SE 2425 4191 the feature appears as a badly mutliated earthwork bank running along a natural ridge.
Womersley excavated a section through the road at SE 229 426 in 1975 at SE(WY SMR PRN 3048) . The excavation trenches were still open and visible on vertical air photographs from 1977. These trenches place Womersley's excavations squarely across the course of the road.
