| Summary : The Edenham and Little Bytham Railway was a private railway built by Lord Willoughby de Eresby and opened in 1857. Three inspections were required before permission was granted to carry passengers over the four mile long line. Produce was more profitable than passengers, but the line made mounting losses and closed to passengers in 1871. By then, horses had replaced steam engines for hauling goods trains, being cheaper to run. Goods traffic ceased in the 1880s. |
