Summary : The Market Rasen Branch Railway was built as part of the wider Great Grimsby and Sheffield Junction Railway scheme, and opened in November 1848. During 1848, agreement was reached with the Sheffield and Lincolnshire Junction Railway to join the line with the S&LJ's Sheffield and Lincoln Extension Railway from Lincoln to Market Rasen (Linear 1021) to enable a shorter Lincoln and Grimsby connecting line. The line joined the GG&SJR at Barnetby.
