Summary : The Honington and Lincoln Railway was opened in 1867 by the GNR, providing a more direct route from Lincoln to London. It shaved an hour off travelling time. It also opened up to local iron ore deposits which were sent to Derbyshire and Scunthorpe until World War I. The line was closed to passengers in 1965.
