The North West Tower which adjoined the river Bure is about thirty foot high, circular, and built of smooth cut flints with red brick dressing. At the time that Palmer was writing it was in use as a stables with hay loft and pigeon house and was surmounted by a conical roof. The tower underwent restoration in the early 1960's. The tower now in use as a photographer's darkroom, is generally as described and well preserved. It carries a plaque "Gt. Yarmouth wall NW tower erected by townsfolk c 1344". Ground photographs. (5) |
