More information : (TG 52540670) South Gate (NR) (site of) (NAT) (1) South Gate, anciently called the Great Gate, was flanked by two round embattled towers connected by a square gatehouse. It was pulled down in 1812 when the road was widened. All trace of the east tower has disappeared, but the base of the west tower remains and is used as an appendage to a stable.
