ST JAMES HOSPITAL

A leper hospital extant by 1164 under the cathedral priory, appears to have become a nunnery or sisterhood by 1343, after which lepers are not mentioned. In 1415, both brethren and sisters are recorded, implying its use as a nunnery and hospital, no brethren being recorded in 1511.
