Summary : A survey of 1561 refers to a pele tower and barmkin on this site. The present farmhouse dates from the 19th century and neither it nor any of its associated outbuildings appears to contain any trace of the tower.

West Newbiggin, Originally called Newbiggin, was the seat of the manor. A survey of 1561 mentions a tower there, in good repair,
with a "Barmkin about it".(2-3)

West Newbiggin, now a farm, is entirely 19th C. Neither the house nor its outbuildings incorporates any visible remains of the
tower, and there are no apparent traces of the barmkin. (4)
