More information : (TG 23330929) St Paul's Hospital (NR) (Site of) (1) The Hospital of St. Paul, Norwich, otherwise called Norman's Spital, from Norman the monk, who was the first master. Founded before 1119 but not completed until after 1121, it was for 14 poor aged men and women. From about 1429 it was for women only. In 1571 the city turned it into a bridewell or house of correction for idle and lazy beggars. The part now standing (1806) being turned into a malt-office.(2-6)
