Summary : Earthwork remains of a moat.
More information : (TG 163636723) Moat (NR) (1) Lying 1/4 mile NW of St. Mary's Church, Bessingham, this moat may be the site of a castle. (2) This earthwork comprises a levelled island surrounded by a ditch cut into a gentle slope. Still water-filled to the north, the remaining arms are now silted up. There is no trace of a causeway. See annotated 25" survey. (3) Listed by Cathcart King. (4)
