Summary : A bowl barrow, part of a linear group located just to the north of the main Oakley Down barrow group (SU 01 NW 19). Listed by RCHME as Wimborne St Giles 116 and by Grinsell as Wimborne St Giles 24a, RCHME noted that it had been flattened by ploughing but was formerly circa 30 feet in diameter. It was not mentioned by Hoare in the early 19th century but was depicted by Sumner early in the 20th. During excavations in 1950-51 on the immediately adjacent barrow SU 01 NW 166, it was described as being "completely denuded". |
