Summary : A bowl barrow in Scrubbity Coppice, one of a group excavated by Pitt Rivers in 1882-83. Pitt Rivers' barrow xvii (RCHME's Sixpenny Handley 50, Grinsell's Handley 9), it was excavated on April 4th 1883. Located adjacent to ST 91 NE 98, prior to excavation it was visible as a mound 40 feet in diameter and up to 1.5 feet high. Nothing was noted other than a single pit or post hole benath the mound, and over 200 flints, mostly flakes and cores, within the mound. [NB this site was originally described as part of ST 91 NE 17.
