Summary : Before finally settling on the site, one mile to the North of Wigmore for what became Wigmore Priory, the Augustinian monks had several temporary foundations in the vicinity of Wigmore, of which Eye, near Aymestrey was one. This was at some time between 1131 and 1179. It is not known for how long they were there, nor what structures were built to house them. (see SO47SW9). |
