TG 08470379. Medieval moated site, surviving as an earthwork. The moat surrounds a rectangular raised platform, measuring roughly 40 metres by 25 metres. The north western, south western and south eastern arms of the moat are open and range in width from 10 to 12 metres. The north eastern arm is narrower, at about 8 metres wide. The south western arm is bordered by an external bank which runs around the southern and western corners. The existing causeway, which crosses the north western moat arm, may not be original. A low bank, which extends north westwards from the north western side of the moat, may represent part of an associated enclosure. About 12 metres south east of this feature is a depression measuring roughly 15 metres by 8 metres, which is believed to be the remains of a fishpond. Scheduled. (6) |
