More information : (NY 5959 7516) Tumulus (GT) (1)
Remains of stone cairn robbed in the centre, with approximately circular ditch about 85' diameter, 7' wide and 2' deep crossed by a causeway on the south-west. (2-3)
Prominently situated above a west facing rock outcrop are the remains of quite well preserved ditched bowl barrow, the mound measuring 21.5min diameter and 1.6m high surrounded by a ditch 0.8m deep and 2.2m wide, partially infilled in the east. The turf covered causeway, which is 2.0m wide, is situated west of centre and not southwest as indicated by authority 2. Mutilation of the centre of the mound may be partially associated with an old OS trig as well as robbing. A modern cairn 1.1m high now marks the centre. No stone, either in the ditch or mound, was obvious during investigation, the general surface texture being consistent with that of a predominantly earthen mound rather than that of a cairn. Surveyed at 1:2500. (4)
