Summary : The site of Roman turret 57A, part of the defences on Hadrian's Wall. It is visible as a slight earthwork.
More information : (NY 5044 6333) Turret (GS) (Site of) (1) Beck Turret, 57a, was located 115 yards west of Turret 56b. It was a Turf-Wall turret, measuring 20' 3" N-S by 23' E-W. Much pottery was found during the excavations of 1933, including Samian, and a second brass of Hadrian. (2-3) Hummocky ground marks the site of this turret. (4) The field has been levelled and nothing now survives to mark the site of this turret. (5) NY 5045 6333. There is a slight swelling, 0.15m high at the OS position (authority 1). (6) Scheduled (7) Located on the English Heritage map of Hadrian's Wall 2010. (8)
