The stone is much weathered and the inscription barely legible. (2)
Building-stone of buff sandstone 18" x 10" (No 1962) found in, or before 1717 at Howgill, (east of milecastle 55). Now built into the south face of a byre in the east range of buildings at Howgill Farm. It records the work done by the Catuvellauni in rebuilding this section of the wall in AD 369. An altar (No 1961) was also found at Howgill in 1808, dedicated to the god Cocidius, and is now in posession of R H G Mounsey-Heysham, Castletown, Rockcliffe, near Carlisle. (Not noticed by Lewis' 'Temples in Roman Britain' 1966 but a temple site may be indicated). (3)
