More information : NY 580606 New Garth - an isolated farmhouse. It can be identified from the map accompanying the 1603 'Gilsland Survey' as a stonehouse with the grounds enclosed. The bastle appears to have been partly rebuilt in the late 17th c. and further remodelled in the 19th c. It retains the original long north wall, 3-3/4 feet thick, and the base of the corresponding S wall. See Type-site NY 88 SE 14) (1)
