Summary : Farmhouse, built as a bastle in the late 16th century, partly rebuilt in the late 17th century, remodelled in the 19th century and further altered in the 20th century. It can be identified from the map accompanying the 1603 'Gilsland Survey' as a stonehouse with the grounds enclosed. It retains the original long north wall and the base of the corresponding south wall.
More information : NY 580606 New Garth - an isolated farmhouse. It can be identified from the map accompanying the 1603 'Gilsland Survey' as a stonehouse with the grounds enclosed. The bastle appears to have been partly rebuilt in the late 17th c. and further remodelled in the 19th c. It retains the original long north wall, 3-3/4 feet thick, and the base of the corresponding S wall. See Type-site NY 88 SE 14) (1)

New Garth farmhouse. Built in the late 16th century and altered in the 17th, 19th and 20th centuries. Listed Grade II. (2)
