Summary : The approximate site of Turf Wall Roman turret 50B (TW). There are no surface remains.
More information : (NY 5973 6559) Turret (GS) (Site of) (1) The remains of Turret 50B TW lie 522 yards east of Milecastle 51 (Wallbowers) (NY 5930 6550). It was 20 ft square and had had a plinth at back and front, an invariable feature of Turf-Wall turrets. "It had been much robbed, probably by the builders of the Stone Wall turret 50A (actually 50B) 150 yards to the north". (2) Nothing significant was recognised at the point indicated by Simpson (and followed on OS 6" 1957) but some 20m eastwards, at NY 5978 6559, there is an area of disturbed ground with what could be the line of a robber trench. Sited at 1:2500. (3) There is no trace of the turret; neither the position shown on OS 6" 1957 (see authority 1) nor the revised position (see authority 3) can be confirmed, hence location to area NY 597 655 only. (4) Scheduled (5) Located on the English Heritage map of Hadrian's Wall 2010. (6)
