ST CRISPINS CHURCH

DESCRIPTION + /

Church with hall built to designs of Thomas Ford, 1958. Built from yellow stock brick with details in reconstituted stone. St Crispin is the patron saint of shoemakers and leatherworkers and there was a thriving leather industry in Bermondsey until the 1960's. Much of the fitting out of the church was paid for by the leather industry. Behind the altar is a semi-circular headed panel painted by Hans Feibusch of St Crispin giving shoes to the poor.
