MONUMENT NO. 1240204

DESCRIPTION + /

A 3-phase cemetery was excavated at the West end of Carlisle Cathedral in 1988. Artefacts recovered included buckles, strap-ends and a pendant-whetstone, mostly of 10th century date. Earlier origins for the cemetery though are suggested by a 9th century strapend and a radiocarbon-14 date of 750+/-70.
