More information : [NY 5675 3222] CROSS [LB] (1) At Edenhall "in the lane leading from the vicarage house to the church are some stone steps which appear to have been surmounted by a cross". [Apparently applies to the above site and implies that the cross has been erected on the old steps since 1840]. (2) Three square steps and a stone base are the remains of a medieval (probably 15th cent) cross. The shaft and head are later, probably 19th cent. replacements. See GP AO/66/193/6 Resurveyed at 1/2500 (3) Cross, Grade 2*, (for details see list). (4) Edenhall Cross, located 230 metres north-west of St. Cuthbert's Church, and comprising a medieval plinth and base into which a 19th century cross shaft and head have been set. All are of red sandstone. The cross is Listed Grade II and scheduled. (5) |
