Summary : Bastion 11A discovered during excavations for the present wallwalk. 'D' shaped in plan with a diameter of about 6m. It was previously unknown, having not been recorded on any of the published post medieval maps of London. Only its foundations survived, but they were shown to cut through medieval made-up ground, thus giving a date for the construction. It had previously been thought that similar bastions in the same area were Roman in date, but in the light of this excavation this dating was revised. |
