Cliburn Hall

Summary : The Hall was probably begun circa 1387, when the pele tower was built, and later there were mid 16th century alterations and additions. A small square tower was added circa 1450 and contains what was the well of the Hall. The battlements of the pele tower were removed and the tower gabled over circa 1872. The Hall was completely modernised with pebble dashed walls, new windows and a roof.

Cliburn Hall consists of a pele tower, probably built c 1387, with
mid-16th C alterations and additions.On the S side is a small
square tower, joined to the main building by an arch and having a parapet all round.This structure was added c 1450 and contains what was the well of the Hall. The battlement of the pele tower were removed and the tower gabled over c 1872. (2-3)

Grade II* (4)

The Hall has been completely modernised with pebble dashed walls, new windows and roof. The only exterior evidence of antiquity is the coat of arms, dated 1567, presevered in the SW wall. (5)
