Summary : Former Islington Chapel built in 1887-8, the chapel occupies part of the site of the 1815 chapel which it replaced. The Queen Anne style building is built of red brick with gauged brick and Portland stone dressings, the roof is tiled. The building was designed by Bonella and Paull, and was built by Patman and Fotheringham. Most of the ironwork, including the area railings, entrance gates and balustrades over the entrancs, was made by the St Pancras Iron Company. The Upper Street front, flanked by porches and a staircase wing on the left, rises to a lofty gable with a large oriel window. The roof is crowned by a hexagonal cupola. The building comprised a large galleried chapel, basement school and ancillary rooms. The chapel closed in 1979 and the building has been converted into recording studios and an office. |
