Summary :
Whorlton Grange. A model farm and planned range of farm buildings. Built in the mid 19th century (surveyed in 1849 and in situ by 1860) by John Green for the Duke of Northumberland. The farm was formed by amalgamation of land and consequently had no farmhouse. The buildings are of coursed squared sandstone with ashlar quoins and dressings, and a Scottish slate roof. U-shaped range with a centre back wing and extruded engine house with tall square chimney, the range is of two storeys except for a single-storey stable which forms part of the right wing. Converted to offices and workshops, and subsequently a Care Home for the Elderly.

Whorlton Grange was formed by amalgamation and is included as an imposing example of a planned, mechanised farm. Planned range of farm buildings, now workshops and storage.
